Since sailing and good food is in many occasions very closely linked, there is a place in Trieste, Italy that is a must-visit. Regardless of whether you visit Trieste for a nautical fair, regatta Barcolana or a sailing trip; a visit to the restaurant La Marinella should be on your to-do list.
This place refers to one of the best restaurants in North Adriatic, run in a manner of traditional family business for decades. It gained its popularity for its delicious cuisine in the first place, offering exquisite seafood specialties along with traditional local ‘simple’ dishes such as pasta, gnocchi, beans-, chokes-, broad beans- and meat-stews. The menu is completed with traditional Triestine sweets while special part of the offer is their wine collection.
Not only is this place perfect for intimate or familiar lunches or dinners but also for banquets and large celebrations such as birthdays, weddings or anniversaries which makes it a number one choice among locals. Its location at Viale Miramare, the waterfront of the Gulf of Trieste gives this place a lovely atmosphere offering its visitors a great view of the sea. The inevitable segment of the atmosphere is completed with friendliness and cheerfulness of the staff and the owners of this establishment.
All waiters have direct and friendly personal approach to every single visitor making them feel welcome as special guests. Many of them remember favorite orders by their regular guests, which include numerous celebrities such as the Pope John Paul II himself! Such friendly atmosphere made La Marinella a favorite restaurant among generations of visitors coming not only from Italy, but from Slovenia and Croatia as well.
The best recommendation for La Marinella can be found in the guest book of impressions where many entries end by words “I’ll be back”. However, throughout the years some things have changed. Unfortunately, the old owner Boris has passed away so his contagious laughter can not be heard any more but his widow Nada still keeps an eye on everything sitting at the cash desk as always.
Some critics claim that La Marinella lives on its old glory that passed away with its owner, but I still like to come here and enjoy the view of the Gulf of Trieste and remember when my childhood when my parents used to take me here occasionally.
