What to Do on Your Sailing Holiday
Sailing is exciting and fun. However, there is so much to do during a yacht charter than sailing itself. So, what are the things you might want to do during your sailing holidays on a chartered yacht?
Taking Photographs
You will undoubtedly see extraordinary scenery, witness fantastic scenes and events, visit charming places and meet interesting people, so be sure to take your camera with you. Taking photos or videos can be a fantastic pastime on your sailing holidays and makes for an excellent souvenir.
Fun and Games
Be sure to take board games. You will surely want to do something fun (and competitive) with your crewmates if there is no possibility to go on shore to go sightseeing. If you are taking children with you, do not forget that they get easily bored, so remember to take something that will keep them busy, like toys.
Sightseeing
Besides the onboard fun, there are also some onshore activities you can enjoy during your sailing holidays. Exploring the surroundings of your marina is one. Many sailing destinations boast some cultural sites or unique natural beauties, so do not stick to your boat and marina - look around, go sightseeing. We are confident you will come to something interesting and find out what to do during your yacht charter holidays.
Tasting Local Cuisine
Local cuisine is also something that should be "explored" when spending your time on the shore. Indulge in local specialties because they just might be one more thing that can make you come back to that place during your next sailing holidays. Also, before you leave for your holiday, check the local festivities schedule. Many sailing destinations have local festivals that can be very interesting and great fun.
Taking Part in a Regatta
Participating in a regatta is another thing you might want to do during your sailing holidays. If you are sure of your sailing abilities and are into active sailing holiday ideas, you might want to test yourself in a regatta. Your agent will provide you with all the necessary information, and for a small fee you can spice up your sailing holiday.
Typical Day on a Yacht
You start your day preparing the boat for the trip, checking the weather charts and fuel. If the winds are favourable, you will sail, but if not, you will have to use the motor. At sundown, you will anchor in a marina or another anchorage. For the rest of the evening, you can hit the local restaurants and clubs or spend a quiet evening on your boat.
Starting the Day
You would normally start the day with breakfast, whether on board or on shore. After breakfast, and depending where you are anchored, you can do grocery shopping, go swimming, sightseeing, fishing or simply prepare the boat for the trip to the next destination on your sailing holidays route. You would normally consult weather charts for the day when choosing the route since a lot of it depends on weather conditions. You might also want to check your fuel. If no wind is expected, you will have to use the motor.
As the Day Goes by
If the winds are favourable, you may enjoy the sight and feel of your charter sailing yacht under full sails. This also gives you the opportunity to practice your tacking and jibing. You might also want to have your lunch while doing all these manoeuvres. However, if you are not such an adventurous type, find some nice bay to anchor and enjoy your lunch in peace.
The time until dinner can also be spent sailing if the weather is favourable. However, a more relaxing option would be to enjoy the sun and sea sunbathing and swimming on your sailing holiday.
At Sundown
Before the night falls, find a nice marina or peaceful anchorage to spend the night. If you opt for the marina, you can spend the evening exploring the surroundings, and enjoying the local cuisine and nightlife.
